Diamond Ranch to Become First-Ever PUSD School to Install Solar Panels

WHAT: Diamond Ranch High School is poised to become the first Pomona Unified School District school to install solar panels, a move estimated to produce a savings of $6.5 million over 25 years. A series of carports, which will house the solar panels, will be built in the staff and student parking lots.

The solar panels will provide shade and lighting, and reduce the school’s carbon footprint to a degree equivalent to removing 242 passenger vehicles from the road.

The school will celebrate the milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony on April 22. It will include performances from the Diamond Ranch High School band and choir, as well as remarks from District officials.

WHEN: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22

WHERE: Diamond Ranch High School, 100 Diamond Ranch Drive, Pomona, CA 91766

DETAILS: In partnership with a local solar energy and engineering firm, Diamond Ranch High School’s solar panels will generate power savings, cut greenhouse emissions and serve as a tremendous educational resource for students who are studying engineering and sustainability. Diamond Ranch High School is one of two schools in Pomona Unified to partner with the firm to install solar panels; the other is Cortez Elementary School, which will receive solar panels in the near future.
